Watching full moon rise from air

by Natalie Kjaergaard

When I taxied on our runway in Holbæk flying club, I could feel how wet it was. In fact, I had never experienced our runway to be that wet. There have been lots of heavy rains recently, and many other grass airfields were under water.

I took off, and noticed how flooded the Skjolds Løb, a channel going to the Lammefjord, was:

The air was quite misty, and I decided to stay close to my home airfield.

Nekselø island, 2 km2 and 17 inhabitants, very nice place for a hiking day trip:

Leif, a pilot from my flying club, was going to join me for that flight, but had to cancel due to other priorities. So I invited The Aviator and The Blue Bear – they happily jumped on:

The beautiful formations of Krageø:

I flew further to Røsnæs peninsula and Kalundborg fjord:

Had a look at Kalundborg and its famous landmark, the five-towered Church of Our Lady built in the 13th century:

Kalundborg harbour:

I decided to fly over Reersø island. I’ve never been there, and needed some inspiration for a simple day tour, whilst the weather is bad (and you cannot go flying that often):

It looked like one could walk the whole island around. On its west side, there were small cliffs. Definetely a good destination – I hope to visit it soon:

There was inversion around 2,000 feet, and the sun disappered earlier:

My flight was very pleasant, and looked like that:

Before landing, I took some pictures of the full moon on the rise, with my home flying club below:

The sky was so beautiful, but I didn’t stay long after the sunset, because of the mist – it could quickly develop to something else, like fog… The fairings of my Aeroprakt were so dirty! I managed to wash them before it became dark.

It was a lovely afternoon in the air, and I was very happy about the chance given.
