Easter 2024. Day 4: Rose fountains in Zurich

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Morning coffee in Zurich… The city met us with a light rain, and we went for a coffee before going shopping.

One of the streets in the old town, decorated with national flags:

It is a tradition in Zurich, to decorate fountains with fresh flowers during Easter time. It was quite nice:

I’ve been to Zurich several times before (I used to go skiing in Switzerland), but never really had a chance to spend a whole day in that city. So now, I was enjoying slow walk, slow shopping, slow food 🙂

For lunch, Flemming and I went to “Montmartre”, a small French bistro with excellent atmosphere. They even had real newspapers and people were reading them!

Zurich is not as beautiful as Meersburg, that we visited the day before, but the old town is pretty:

And the flower decorations helped. Many people were taking pictures of them:

The Reformierte Kirche started this tradition of filling the fountains with roses in 2021, when we had the COVID-19 pandemic. It was done with the purpose of bringing hope to people during those difficult times.  Well, the COVID-19 is gone (or at least the impact has diminished), but there are other disturbing geopolitical events in the world, and people still need hope and peace – therefore this tradition continues.

Later the sun finally came out, and we had our afternoon coffee outside:

It was nice to see the blue skies again.

One hour train ride back to Konstanz late afternoon. On our way, we could admire those stunning views:

In Konstanz, the lights were turning on.

We had a walk in the old town of  Konstanz – it was also decorated with flowers:

Some of the buildings’ facades were so beautiful:

It was also a good day we had, with new experiences. And we visited a new country on our Easter 2024 tour.
