Öland tour 6 – 8 July. Day 3: Borgholm

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Sunday morning, after a round over the northern tip of Öland, we headed for Borglanda airfield. The view of the island from the north:

We wanted to visit Borgholm, and if we had the time also the Borgholm Castle.

Borglanda aerodrome with the Borgholm Castle in the background:

The Borgholm Castle was first built in the second half of the 13th century and rebuilt many times in later centuries.  It was destroyed in a fire in 1806 and today only a ruin remains.  The place is open for public, and is very interesting to visit. There are magnificent views from the fortress…

We continued to the Borgholm town, and to its harbour:

Lunch at Lilla Hamnkontoret, a cosy seaside seafood restaurant:

The food was excellent, made from clearly fresh and good quality ingredients.

A stroll in the downtown with its characteristic buildings:

Borgholm is one of the most popular summer resorts in Sweden.

Back to the airfield where parachute jumps were taking place:

There were many guests, and tandem jumps were available:

The town of Borgholm from air:

And we are back to the vastness of Swedish forests and lakes:

We flew to Höganäs where we had a break. It was so nice to relax in the garden after about of 2 hours flying:

And finally the Kronborg Castle on the horizon with the Ven island in the background – quite a different picture than the one we took leaving Denmark Friday morning:

We had such a rich in experiences tour! Many thanks to Bengt Eklund from the Ölanda flying club for helping us with links, phone numbers, and practicalities! We look forward to return!
