Hvide Sande at sunset time

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Last weekend the weather was good, and I new there was Old Timer rally in Arnborg – so I headed there together with my Aviator:

I had had to wait a couple of hours in Holbæk before getting airborne – the MET office warned me about low ceiling over the Great Belt. But in the afternoon it cleared up, and the sun was shining. Beautiful Jutland:

I landed and parked my Aeroprakt (far center):

It is always such a pleasure to walk in to the DaSK vintage hangar:

All those gliders are in an airworthy condition and being flown regularly! I myself had a chance to fly several of them on different occasions.

Bjarne kindly offered me to stay in the same place where he stayed, and the old caravan turned out to be a cozy spot:

In the evening, there was dinner on a sunny terrace. We appreciated Klaus cooking for the whole team:

It was a very nice evening in a company of pilots, talking about flying:

Bjarne and I wanted to reach a sunset flight.

Our intention was to do a round over Ringkøbing fjord, because it is such a picturesque place:

We flew along Holmsland Klit which is a 40 km long and up to 2 km wide dune that separates Ringkøbing fjord from The North Sea:

We circled around it for a while, taking pictures and admiring the raw beauty of the coastline:

In the middle of Holmsland Klit lies the town of Hvide Sande (English: The White Sands). A canal, dug through the dune, connects Ringkøbing fjord to the North Sea:

Despite its small size, Hvide Sande is the fifths largest fishing port in Denmark. Hvide Sande is a center for various businesses like fishery, shipyards, a harbour for offshore supply boats and services, and of course tourism.

It was getting dark on the ground, and we flew back to Arnborg. Bjarne helped me with parking, and we left cleaning for the next day.

The sunset was dramatic:

There was also a super moon that night – it was huge and mystic, hanging low at the horizon… Bjarne and I finished the day with a glass of rosé in the camping caravan, before wishing each other “good night”.
