EKGL 75 years anniversary: day 2

by Natalie Kjaergaard

The second day of the celebrations was a party with about 150 guests.

One of the hangars was re-organised into a big party room. Kaj Lund, the chairman of the board, welcomed everybody (photo: Peter Rasmussen).

It was very nice to have the time to mingle with the guests before the dinner. Glenn Carstensen and Björn Rechinger:

With Trine Varmer, pilot from the Nordsjællands gliding club:

Klaus Degner was our toastmaster and guided us through the evening:

Torben Søemod prepared a delicious 4-course menu for us. On the photo below he is telling us about his work that evening:

We got white asparagus with smoked salmon for a starter, and tender and juicy beef for the main course, followed by a cheese board.

In between the courses there were fun games and entertainment:

We sang two special songs, written by the members of the club many years ago. One of the songs was even sung by the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II on one or another very special occasion.

For desert, Torben made a surprise for us: we could chose between three different deserts, or just have them all. I thought instead of taking pictures of deserts, I’d rather have one of the man who made them:

There were speeches and gifts. On the photo below Kaj Lund is receiving a present from Peter Eriksen, the chairman of the board from the DSvU, to the Nordsjællands gliding club:

Glenn in front of the Grunau Baby IIb, he co-owns together with other glider pilots:

Grunau Baby was first built in Germany in 1931. Around 6.000 in total were constructed in 20 countries around the world. The one on the photo was built in 1948 in the Aeronautical Centre in Avedøre. This aircraft has had around 10.000 take-offs, and 600 airborne hours. It used to be a trainer, and many glider pilots had their solo flight in it.

Grunau Baby IIb has a wing area of 14.2 m2, Vne = 150 km/h, max glide ratio 17 at 60 km/h. Empty weight 170 kg, MTOW 250 kg.

Well, there is a Grunau Baby, and there is also The Egon’s Baby – a cute, kind, and cheerful dog called Chili:

Chili attended the party, of course, and quickly got not drunk but tired and needed to go to bed. So Egon had to leave early. We, others, enjoyed the brilliant live music and dancing. The dance floor was excellent, and I also gladly spent some time there.

It was such a wonderful evening! Many thanks to all attending, and to those who made it happen. It will be remembered. Happy anniversary!
