A lovely sunrise welcomed me to the Vamdrup airport last Sunday:
I was going to attend a Rotax course, organised by DULFU, the Danish Ultralight Association, and with the help of two experienced instructors from Dan-Glide ApS: Morten and Jesper. Dan-Glide is a certified service centre that operates in Denmark and Norway. Their knowledgeable mechanics perform all types of repairs and service of gliders, motor gliders, and ultralights. There is no landing fee, if you visit them by air.
After a welcome breakfast, Jesper began from the theoretical part:
We were a small group of 11 pilots from different clubs of Denmark. The examples of engine parts were sent around, and it was easy to ask questions.
We reviews the most important things, and had lots of practical training:
Morten from Dan-Glide (center on the photo below) gives some valuable tips:
During one of the breaks, I stuck my head into a couple of hangars. Even a Harvard was there! Far centre:
And unexpectedly met some friends – Søren with his beautiful Jodel after a flight:
We tried to use different instruments:
And saw many tips and tricks that Jesper and Morten generously shared with us:
We also had a brief guided tour in the Dan-Glide hangars, and learned how different aircraft were restored, repaired, or serviced:
Jesper, demonstrating some useful gear:
And hands-on, hands-on, hands-on…
I took lots of notes and pictures, so that I could share them with my club mates:
When we were leaving Vamdrup by the sunset time, I wondered why all the cars in front of me were backing up. The answer was we had to give way to a taxiing Cessna! I have also tried it several times, when cars gave me way – it was fun, and the good thing is that everyone in such situation is happy:
It was a great course where we learned much more about the Rotax engines, had practical exercises, and could get answers to all the questions we had. Many thanks to Jesper and Morten from Dan-Glide for the interesting and professional course, and to DULFU for organising it!
