Because it’s Tuesday!

by Natalie Kjaergaard

It is mid September, and we got such a wonderful gift of nature in Denmark – sunny weather with temperatures up to +27C this week! But the days are short, and to get airborne after work can be a challenge.

Yesterday Flemming and I wanted to take advantage of this nice weather. About 1.5 hour drive to Holbæk flying club, pre-flight check, and we were flying! The air was very misty, but it didn’t spoil the pleasure.

We were going to Tåsinge, a small island south of Funen:

Valdemars Castle from air (was built in 1644 by the King Christian IV to his son Valdemar, hence the name):

Svendborg strait that separates Tåsinge from Funen:

Landing in Tåsinge from the water side was spectacular.

Our plan was to walk to the beach, and go snorkelling – we had all our gear with us. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time for that! Surface wind was SE and 5 knots, but in 2500 feet – where we flew – it was NW and 10-15 knots, so we had headwind and lost some time there. We agreed to go snorkelling another day, sat in the garden instead of and had our dinner:

Tailwind on the way back gave us a chance to see a bit more from the air. Bregninge church on Tåsinge island:

Marvellous sunset over the Great Belt:

The sun was like a huge red ball on the sky, and the light was very much diffused, soft and wrapping:

We watched the sun going down, and then turned back to Holbæk where some of my club mates were finishing their flying day:

Flemming and I were glad we managed to have a flight on a Tuesday. These sunny and warm days of September will soon be gone…
