AAA and Zone flylaug’ evening in EKHK

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Yesterday members of Zone flylaug and AAA met in EKHK for dinner, drinks, and of course flying.

The line-up on apron:

Some of the members were already having drinks in the Kenneth’s hangar. We are normally there, because it is much more enjoyable to be in a hangar with beautiful aircraft around you.

A guest from Germany and his wife visited us. The pilot got permission to start in his paramotor. Note his car – what a cheerful print!

We were watching him preparing for the flight.

And soon he took off. The pilot and his wife told me they would drive to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway during a summer vacation, for about three weeks. The man would sometimes find an airfield to take-off from, and fly. He would land somewhere in a different place, and his wife would drive there and pick him up. Good team work, and a very nice way to see other countries.

Meanwhile, our grill was running, and the men were preparing their meal:

All seemed to enjoy the event.

And there was time for a flight for me, with Ole, in irresistable Bessie:

I was thrilled to fly this aircraft. Dieter Betz, the previous owner, described it in such loving detail in his book “Himmelballade”. His name is still on the Bessie’s side.

It is always a pleasure to fly a historic aircraft, and experience its performance. At this point, at the end of the RWY10, we were in about 100-150 feet. If I flew Aeroprakt, I’d be in 300-500 feet there. Neither better or worse, it is just a difference of 68 years in aircraft manufacturing.

We flew a bit around, and I also got permission to fly it. I loved it. Such a Piper Cub I’d love to own and fly.

The view from the cockpit was also good:

We landed, had an ice-cream, and waived goodbye to the leaving aircraft:

One more lovely evening in our lives…
