Christmas hygge with Zonen Flylaug

by Natalie Kjaergaard

In Zonen Flylaug, we have had a very good year – around 6,000 individual visitors came by our hangar in Nyvang to see and hear about the history of OY-DYZ, the museum aircraft we maintain and fly. We wanted to celebrate it, and met in Nyvang over a Christmas lunch. In front of the hangar with OY-DYZ in the background (Photo: Kenneth Maigaard):

OY-DYZ is a Danish designed and built museum aircraft KZ-III from 1946, and had served as an ambulance for many years, flying to the small and remote islands in Denmark, often in a very bad weather, saving lives… Today, it is exhibited in Nyvang, and during the opening days our volunteers tell the visitors her story.

Our association is not big, but very enthusiastic. We are proud to be a part of the Danish aviation history. At the lunch, we discussed our plans for the next year:

Rikke, one of our members, came by to say hello and to wish us a merry Christmas, before going to a Christmas dinner at work. Rikke with Morten and Kenneth:

When in Nyvang, we always go and see our Zonen aircraft, and take pictures by her side. Svend, hiding behind the prop:

Kenneth wanted to have a photo of us all together, and he was very innovative:

He arranged a kind of tripod where he placed his mobile phone:

We all laughed, but the photo turned up to be very good (that’s also the one I used as the first photo in this blogpost):

I borrowed a real old Zonen jacket for the photo shoot. We spent some time in the hangar, walking around Zonen, and talking about plans for hangar improvements next year.

It was a great day together. For lunch, we brought traditional Danish dishes. Many of our members had cooked them at home from scratch. Five-six hours went by quickly; we enjoyed our company.
