Pannkosh in Odense

by Natalie Kjaergaard

When Saturday evening Carsten called me and said I could fly to the Pannkosh on Sunday in Odense with him, I was delighted. I couldn’t get an aeroplane that day, i.e. I wouldn’t be able to go. After our conversation I was jumping, dancing and singing for at least 15 minutes. The weather was going to be excellent.

When I arrived to our flying club, Carsten had already taken a test flight:

Everything was ready, and we took off. I don’t think Carsten ever had such a happy passenger. Missing a flying day and a fly-in could potentially break my heart.

Nyborg. No wind:

Thorn island in the Odense fjord on the photo below. From air, it looked to me like it had a shape of a butterfly fish (can you see it?). It is the only inhabited island in the Odense fjord, with 3 or 4 people living there. It covers an area of 21 hectares and is inaccessible to the general public.

We were one of the first ones to arrive to the Odense airport:

Soon many other aircraft from different parts of Denmark landed. It was so nice to meet with fellow pilots again! Some of them I haven’t seen for ages. We were supposed to meet in Revninge where the Pannkosh would normally take place, but the airfield was too wet, and Bo Rønnow got permission to use the fire brigade’ facilities at the Odense airport. Sausages, pancakes, coffee – everything was ready:

After lunch we went to see the WWII occupation museum.

We got a free guided tour.

A coffee substitute from the WWII that is still produced was served. It tasted good:

During our visit, many parachute jumps were happening, and it was lovely to see the jumpers on the clear blue sky:

We had a guided tour of the airport with Kim from operations, and visited the EKOD tower where Lisbeth – a beautiful and welcoming air traffic controller on duty that day – showed us around:

Time goes quickly in a good company, but the days are short, and it was time to go home. Around 20 aircraft attended the fly-in. I think everybody had missed to get together, to fly, and to enjoy a Sunday with a sunshine.

Many thanks to Carsten and Kaj for taking the initiative to meet; to Odense airport for the warm hospitality; to Bo and his daughter Ya for the delicious food, warm company, and for organising the event. With Ya and Bo:
