Nyvang opening with Zone flylaug

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Today Andelslandsbyen Nyvang (the co-operative Village Nyvang) had a grand opening of the new season. Nyvang has around 400 volunteers working in 39 associations. I’m a member of Zone Flylaug. This association was founded in 2013 with the purpose of maintaining and flying a historic Danish aircraft KZ-IIIU-3 OY-DYZ from 1946, also called Zonen.

We met in the Zonen’s hangar for morning coffee and cake.

It was very nice to start the day in this relaxed way, and to discuss our future plans.

After the meeting we went around the vilage. All shops and associations were open, with volunteers that welcomed us in. Søstrup dairy was preparing for production of butter and smoked cheese.

Machine that is used to make butter:

Frederik Madsen’s garage on the photo below, as it looked in 1950s. The bike is a Danish one, Nimbus from 1944. A company called Fisker & Nielsen manufactured them during 1934 – 1959. Around 14.000 of these motorbikes were produced. The car is Ford V8, model 62 from 1939. Both fully operational.

We had a look in the garage.

There were many interesting things:

Country supermarket of the 1940s. We bought some goods there, of course:

Lots of activities were around the place:

Erik, Kenneth, and Morten at a knife-sharpening machine:

Vintage cars were driving around:

A room in the main building was transformed into a hospital:

Nurses were cycling around vising ill “patients”:

After a visit to the hospital we needed a break! Delicious meet balls from the butcher’s helped. Happy Kenneth, Michael, and Erik:

At the toy’s shop we were invited backstage and saw how the rooms were furnished at that time:

Visitors were taking horse-driven carriages – good entertainment for the whole family:

The office building of the Glumsø sawmill was open. The original mill was built in 1890, restored after a fire in 1916.

There were also farm animals. The one on the photo below was very curious:

Kenneth and Morten came in their aircraft that complimented the atmosphere:

And now I can see what is missing – a photo of all members together. We’ll take it next time we have a meeting.

We had a very nice day in Nyvang. Cheerful atmosphere, volunteers at work that would share many interesting stories with us, our Zonen Flylaug… Wounderful day out!

Come and see the place for yourself! It is going to be open till 21st October. The next big event is on 5-6th May when Nyvang is going to be occupied by “the Germans” (a la WWII).
