Endelave is a nice small island in Denmark. It has an area of about 12 km2 and a coastline of 20 km long. Around 200 people live on Endelave. In the aviation world this island is known for one of its inhabitants – Jens Toft – a great flying enthusiast who established an international airport on the island in 1964 (a grasstrip of 650 m), has owned 137 aeroplanes, and has done a lot for the development of interest to general aviation in Denmark, among many other things.
On the 18th September there was a fly-in, and several aircraft from our flying club went there. I flew with Thore who was kind to offer a seat in his beautiful Allegro:
Endelave is located almost in the middle of Denmark which makes it an attractive spot for fly-ins. Around 700 guests a year visit the island by private aeroplanes.
The airstrip is well-maintained, there are 50 red bicycles with yellow wheels in the barn, a small kitchen and a guest bathroom.
We got the bikes and headed for the Endelave Kro to have lunch with all other flying guests.
Around 25-30 aircraft from different parts of Denmark attended, and it was a pleasure to meet them and to spend some time together. We had a tour to the habour and tried a kids’ game (don’t know the name but it was fun!):
The habour was a bit empty – end of season in our part of the world…
The day was finished enjoying non-alcoholic beverages in one of our hangars:
