Last night there was a wild party in the Anholt harbour, with loud music and screaming till early Thursday morning, so we didn’t sleep much. The very convenient location of the camping site came with a price, we found out.
After breakfast – porridge and freshly brewed coffee by Flemming – we went to the nearest beach.
The water was a bit cold, but so refreshing!
Flemming and I had heard there was an exhibition of contemporary art in the church, and we wanted to see it.
It wasn’t possible to come close to those art objects, and there wasn’t any information about the artists or the art, and therefore we quickly left.
There are a couple of sad stories connected to the church which I described in my previous visits. One of them is about two local girls that drowned west of Anholt; you can read more here. And another one is about the fate of pilots from three Lancaster bombers during the WWII; read more here.
Our next stop was Anholt museum where we spent considerable amount of time, learning about the life on the island:
Its maritime part was exciting:
There was even some special rescue equipment we had heard about, but never seen:
In the main museum building, we read a number of interesting articles about the ambulance aircraft that were common in Denmark, and how they saved lives of the islanders:
In the afternoon, we were invited for a glass of rosé at Jeanette & Niels’ summer house. It was so nice to meet them and have a chat on the shaded terrace.
Later, Flemming and I hanged out in the harbour:
Biked around, and enjoyed the views:
We checked out the menu cards of all eateries around, but were not tempted by their offerings. Had tried to book a table at a restaurant called Ved Vejen – they were booked for several days ahead. We actually got an impression (surely a wrong one!) that Anholt was a place for booze parties – so much alcohol was sold everywhere! And not many interesting places to eat at. So it was again a trip to the supermarket, and voilà – dinner on the beach was ready and served:
Lots of swimming:
The sea at Anholt is always crystal clear… Flemming also had a dip:
Free art on the beach:
Flemming and I wanted to go to bed earlier to get a good sleep, and hoped very much that there won’t be any parties – we were going on a whole day hiking tour around the island next day.
The sun was getting down, and it was pleasantly silent over the camping site…
