Our next destination was Vannes, a city in Brittany, on the northwest coast of France. We thanked Stéphane for his hospitality, and took off from his home airfield of Omaha Beach:
Beautiful cliffs of the north coast:
It was Thursday 11th July, and our flight was going to be easy:
To start with, it was quite turbulent, but after about half an hour the air became smooth and the flight – more pleasant:
The west coast of Normandy:
And, of course, a round over the Mont-Saint-Michel in 3000 feet:
The area south of the Bay of Saint Michel was very colourful. White sand beaches right by the sea, then a very flat area with striped fields; after a couple of kilometres the terrain became hilly, and looked quite different:
Vagn and I arrived to Vannes, took a taxi and got to the town. Before leaving Omaha Beach, I quickly booked an apartment in Vannes for our stay. When we got to the place, our jaws simply dropped – we were going to stay in that charming yellow house right in the middle of the pedestrian area!
The building on the left was the cathedral of Vannes:
We went for a quick tour in the town, and couldn’t believe our eyes – so beautiful it was! Next to our yellow house there was a small Creperie St. Guenhaël:
It was such a charming place, and so welcoming staff! I love galettes; Vagn had the one on the photo below, and I went for the one with saint jacques.
It was delicious, and we couldn’t stop – had crepes for desert as well. The rosé we had was also very good. Very nice place, worth paying a visit again.
The view from our apartment to the Place Saint-Pierre:
We haven’t seen the city yet, but were totally overwhelmed by the beauty of our surroundings.
