Friday morning 12th July began from a photo session: I wanted to memorise our stay in that beautiful yellow house in Vannes and asked Vagn to take a photo of me waiving from the window of our apartment on the 1st floor:
It was so funny to do it, because I could see that tourists that came to the Place Saint-Pierre did exactly the same as Vagn and I when we were there for the first time: they stopped overwhelmed by the beauty of this place, said “wauw” several times, stared at the buildings for some time, then took their cameras up and began shooting.
I was waving to Vagn for the photo, but the tourists thought I waved to them, so they began waving back to me, and we all laughed a lot:
It was about time to have breakfast; we found a wonderful boulangerie nearby – “La huche a pain”:
It was such a nice place, and they had so many good things!
I could finally get my favourite thing for breakfast – pain aux raisins! For some years ago, there was a French bakery near my home in Copenhagen, in Værnedamsvej. They made excellent bread and pain aux raisins, but they were strangled by the local supermarket that could produce cheaper (and considerably lower quality) bread for the crowds.
A stroll through the town was a pure pleasure – I love those old building and the history behind them. The one on the photo below is a must-see in Vannes. It is a 16th century house with the carved stone busts of Vannes and his wife on the facade:
Vannes and his wife overlook part of the old town center from their corner position at an old building at the crossing of two streets. Every guidebook has their picture:
It was a lovely day, warm and sunny. We just walked around slowly, and enjoyed the atmosphere of the old town:
Some of the old buildings were supported by the beams on their facades:
In the central passageway of the La Cohue Museum of Fine Art we experienced an installation by the artist Simon Augade who create a strange presence through a barrage of material:
This work reminded me of the Nimis, an artwork by the Swedish artist Lars Vilks on a rocky beach northwest of Arild, on Kullaberg peninsula of the sothern Sweden.
View from the other side:
We had lunch at the “Le St-Ex creperie” where St-Ex stands for “[Antoine de] Saint-Exupéry”. Vagn and I were definitely attracted by the name, but the quality of food didn’t disappoint.
Vagn’s choice of palette:
After lunch, we went home for siesta. It was beginning to get really hot, and was therefore nice to relax on a sofa in a cool building. Vagn tried to make a selfie of us:
It wasn’t easy, but he succeeded:
In the late afternoon, we went for a stroll again.
We had dinner in one of the restaurants on Place Gambetta.
The food was great, but the service could be improved. So we decided to have desert later, and in a different place – to get a better experience.
There was one or another race with lots of bikers coming by:
We walked by La Marle in the evening sun, and looked at all those gorgeous boats lined up by the quays:
It was a splendid day we had in charming Vannes, and we couldn’t get used to its beauty.
