Friday afternoon was a bit cloudy, and I wondered whether it would be possible to cross over the water to the German island Rügen via Gedser Odde in Denmark and Darsser Ort in Germany.
The clouds were so beautiful to fly by. I can never get enough of these pictures:
The clouds were slowly disappearing into a mist:
By the time we reached Gedser Odde, the southernmost tip of Denmark, the skies were clear, and we turned left for Rügen:
I flew together with Vagn, my very good friend. We wanted to spend a weekend on Rügen, and also visit Bienenfarm where QuaxMeet 2018 was taking place.
The visibility was perfect, and we could fly in FL95 – the necessary for Vagn’s aircraft altitude. Darsser Ort of Rügen in the afternoon sun:
The views were spectacular. Hiddensee:
Soon we were joining left downwind for RWY27 in ODCG, Rügen airport:
Vagn put on the wings’ covers, I’ve sewn for his Rans:
We rented a car from the airport, and headed for Sellin, a resort town on the east coast where we were going to stay.
On our way we saw this wonderful (I don’t know what I shall call it) head in the bushes (see blue arrow pointing at it). We stopped to take pictures, and laughed a lot – what a great sense of humor the owners of that house have!
Sellin was very beautiful with Rügen’s characteristic white villas everywhere. We stayed in one of those, on Wilhemstrasse:
Wilhelmstrasse was a very nice street lined up with restaurants and shops. It ends by the sea, with the most beautiful view.
We found a good restraurant Zur Kajüte where we could seat outside under those red lamps that keep you warm, and enjoy our food al fresco.
The food was excellent. We had soljanka soup, and a fish platter. Everything was mouth-watering. The staff couldn’t be blamed for being slow – our main course was served before we finished the soup! They also misunderstood our choice of wine – we got dessert wine. It was served in a decanter and we didn’t get a chance to taste it, but it was really good, and we decided to keep it.
After the dinner we had a stroll to the beach and had a look at the Seebrücke Sellin again, at night time. It was very beautiful, covered with lights. This photo was taken earlier when we arrived:
We were happy we reached our destination in such an easy way, everything was just fine. And we looked forward to fly to Bienenfarm, and to explore Rügen.
