I woke up early, and decided to have a look at the weather – just in case. What I saw, told me we needed to leave NOW. Flemming agreed, we quickly collected our things, and asked the reception to call us a taxi. No swimming pool, no breakfast… We were welcome back though, if unsuccessful – our room was booked for two nghts…
We waived goodbye to the hotel and to Holstentor. A taxi quickly picked us up.
In Lubeck airport, we waited for the special VFR for about an hour. When the METAR changed from IFR to LIFR, we jumped in to OY-9797, and called the tower.
We got permission to take off, and happily did so.
Lubeck was covered in clouds:
Flemming and I were happy we took that chance to come back home – otherwise it would have taken some days of unexpected vacation time in Lubeck. We were prepared for such a surprise (it happened to me before) – had our work laptops with us, but anyway…
Over some parts of Germany, there was overcast, but no clouds over the water, not at all.
The flight home was uneventful:
In Denmark, it was much more misty, but only few clouds over the land.
There was nobody at my flying club, when we landed. Who would fly in that weather?
Flemming and I cleaned up my Aeroprakt and put it into the hangar. Our Easter vacation came to an end – we were glad we could reach that long, we had wonderful time flying and experiencing, and it was good to be back home.
