I made a mistake – enrolled in an evening course “Strategic risk management” at Copenhagen Business School earlier this year. Well, the course itself has been very interesting and relevant for my job. And – I thought the course was going to be finished by the end of May. It did, but then I had to use the whole June for writing my exam paper! Plus, June is always a very busy months at work. And the weather this June has been exceptionally good. So, when everybody was enjoying those warm sunny days, I had to sit at home till late night, either working or studying. I basically reduced my summer by 1/3. In desperation, I took one evening off, and drove to my flying club.
Waiting for the train to pass by at the Ny Hagested train stop, I was dreaming of flying to one or another island, having a swim and my meal on a secluded beach.
I took off, and headed for Sejerø, a relatively small island of approx. 12 km2 between Sjellands Odde and Rosnæs.
It was a calm evening, and The Aviator also enjoyed the flight:
We did a round over the Sejerø Lighthouse – the island’s landmark:
Sejerø By – the main village of the island, housing half of its population:
I landed on a private runway, maintained by Jørgen, a former pilot, who together with his wife has a property there:
This time, I decided to take a different road to the beach, a road less travelled?
Well, not exactly. I was longing for a swim, and just wanted to get to the beach quicker. So insted of walking to Gniben, and taking the nice sandy beach to the west of the lighthouse, I headed for the small bay south of Marebjerg.
It was a big mistake (another one, I thought), because the bay wasn’t ready yet for the swimming guests… It was dirty, and smelled terribly, so I had to walk away from it. Later in the season it will be nice again.
I had to abandon my dream of getting into the water, because the beach wasn’t very good there, and now it was too late to go to Gniben. Well, that’s how a wrong decision can derail you from reaching your goal! Luckily, only temporarily! 🙂 I found a cozy place among the rocks, and invited both The Blue Bear and The Aviator for a sunset meal:
It was very peaceful to sit there and enjoy the view:
Soon it was time to leave, if we wanted to land back home within the civil twilight time.
The sunset from air was stunning:
It was all the trouble worth! (The trouble of driving approx. 1.5 hours to my flying club, 1 hour back, and 30 min looking for a parking place.) I was tired, but relaxed and happy. Now I could get back to my work and evening study again, and the memory of this evening would help me on my way. I reflected over, what we percieve as mistakes might in reality be a blessing, the roads not taken give a different perspective, and all that together gifts us with a freedom of personal choice and leads to something better in life.
