Early mornings are magic in my flying club:
Knowing that the weather is going to be good whole day makes you feel happy already. I’m not a morning person, but I’d get up as early as necessary to go on a flying trip!
This time the destination was Fur – a small island i northern Jutland:
About 1.5 hours airborne time – and Fur was on the horizon:
I circumnavigated the island, to have some aerial sightseeing first. Steep cliffs, called Knudeklinterne, on the north-west side of Fur:
I had Flemming with me on this trip. We parked my Aeroprakt, Flemming tied it down, and I put the canopy cover on. A brand new canopy cover is available for sale on my other site here.
Flemming found bikes at the airfield, and we got on the road. We wanted to see Bispehuen – one of the main (of many) attractions on Fur. Biking around the Stendalgraven, which is one of the island’s largest moclay mines, was spectacular:
Bispehuen is “just” a piece of moclay with many different layers of ash exposed, and is always so interesting to visit. This time I flew my drone around and on top of it:
After spending some time by Bispehuen, we continued to The Red Rock of Fur. I love this place, it’s probably my favourite on the island:
The Red Rock is a huge red rock 🙂 Its colour comes from the rusted iron, washed out of the moclay. On the eastern side of the rock, we noticed several poteholes – deep circular holes formed by erosion of the rock caused by rotation of small stones in an eddy. I haven’t seen them before… They reminded us of our 4-week trip to Sweden in 2020 where we saw a number of huge potholes in different places in the northern Sweden, like at Storforsen or in Abisko National Park.
Then Flemming needed a break (old man!), so I had to fly my drone again… Just kidding 🙂 It was the opposite way: I wanted to fly my drone, and Flemming had to take a break and wait 🙂
We walked to one of the dramatic cliffs:
And had our lunch break there, with the sea view:
Beneath, there was a group of people, kayaking around Fur. They also needed a lunch break in the sun:
I’ll be honest, I had considered taking my bikini with me, and going for a swim. I was glad I didn’t do it – it was so damn cold! It was nice in the sunlight, somewhere in a protected corner, but otherwise very cold…
We soon had to leave… and we agreed to come again during summer time, for a long weekend.
Flying back, we adored those oceans of water and blue skies above them:
Both Flemming and I were quite tired after biking the very steep hills of Fur, and laughed at each other when we got home. Get in good fit, before you go there! 🙂
