On the 2nd August we left early from Zakopane for a trip to Morskie Oko.
Zakopane – a town where we stayed – is a resort place at the base of Tatra Mountains. It is located near the border with Slovakia and is a very popular destination for mountaineering and skiing, visited by around 2.5 million tourists a year. Zakopane is a beautiful town with characteristic wooden chalets and stunning mountain views. It has a pedestrian street full of shops, restaurants, musicians, horse carriages, and market stalls.
It is very easy to reach Morskie Oko from Zakopane. A short bus/taxi drive to the entrance to the National Park, and then – either 9-10 km walk or a horse-drawn cart. We opted for the latter one, and had a nice ride.
We were many in our group, so we used several carts. When one overtook others, it was a great fun 🙂
Morskie Oko is the largest and forth deepest (50.8 m) lake in Tatras.
The views were overwhelming:
The hike was easy, and we decided to go further to Czarny Staw (Black Lake). The path was overcrowded with tourists, but it didn’t spoil our tour.
There were beautiful waterfalls on our way:
This is how Morskie Oko looks like from Czarny Staw:
Being photographed with Vagn is always a good experience:
Reaching Czarny Staw was rewarding. It is a peaceful place where you want to stay longer. The lake is not big, but deep – 76m, and it is at 1.583m above sea level.
