Last Sunday we went to the island of Aero (Ærø in Danish) together with Hans Christian.
The EKAE airfield has a very nice grass runway with no trees close by that could cause turbulence:
An air traffic controller was on duty and welcomed us to Ærø when there was a break in radio communication:
Ærø flying club has bikes for rent, and we would normally go either to Ærøskøbing or Marstal. My favourite is Ærøskøbing which is a very charming old city. A bike path of about 7 km to Ærøskøbing goes by the sea and offers a beautiful ride. Suddenly you are in the middle of the city, and it is like coming into a fairy tale.
During the “right” time the streets are full of huge blossoming roses. It was too early for the “roses season”, but we spotted a couple of them anyway:
Habour area is very nice, relaxing, and has a couple of good restaurants. We love having lunch at the smokehouse:
Delicious smoked fish…
Vintage ships and cars are (almost) everywhere:
Ærø has beautiful sand beaches where you can always find a good spot for yourself:
Small beach houses:
Many people visit Ærø by air every day. When we got back there was a Chipmunk parked among other aeroplanes:
The good thing is that you always wish you could stay longer…
Time to go home:
Munkholm half-island south of Holbæk:
One more wonderful day we will remember…
