Last couple of days the weather stayed very nice for flying.
One of the afternoons I asked Lars whether he wanted to join me on a flight to Langeland, an island southeast of Funen:
Langeland means “long land”, and the island is really long – 52 km (and 11 km wide):
Around 13,000 people live on the island. Langeland is known for its grain production, and as a recreational and wellness tourism area.
We located the airfield (ends of the runway marked with blue arrows below), and landed:
Backtracking to apron, we admired those golden fields and the people working on them:
Our intention was to walk to the beach, and have our dinner there.
And whilst we were standing there at the airstrip, looking at the beautiful fields and machines doing the harvest work,
the owner of the airfield and his spouse came out to say hello. It was very nice meeting them, and we had a long chat. Hans (the owner) told us about his flying life, and how the airfield is used today. We also talked about the life on Langeland, and it was very kind of them to spend time with us:
The day was going to its end; Lars and I abandoned our plans to walk to the beach, and had our salads by my Aeroprakt instead of. The soft evening light was so amazing! I was running around taking pictures of the fields in the sunset light, and on the photo below Lars is confirming to me that the salat is good, and I need to join the dinner:
Lars and I once landed home in almost complete darkness after a flight trip to one of the islands (read more here). We didn’t want to repeat our mistakes, and took off in a good time.
The air was very calm, and we enjoyed the flight, looking down at the long shadows on the ground,
and spotting a Maersk container vessel, joking that we could easily do a low pass by its side – and there still be at least 100 metres till the water surface:
The sunset was marvellous – always a very nice way to complete a flight with:
