Sunrise to sunset

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Tuesday morning Morten and I met up in Måløv early. The sun was about to rise, and it was one of those few beautiful November mornings with light frost and clear blue skies:

I arranged fuel the day before, and only needed to filter it prior re-fueling (that’s normal procedure in my flying club). As soon as we pulled the aircraft out of the hangar, its fuselage and wings got covered in a very thin layer of ice. After about half an hour in the sunshine it disappeared. When the aircraft was ready, we took off for Höganäs in Sweden.

Morning light is quite different from the evening light: it is very sharp and cold. I have had some early morning flights where I experienced the sunrise from air during last winter – it was graceful and revitalizing (and very cold, there is no heating in AP22), but I also concluded that I’m more into the warm sunset light.

Two happy pilots in the air:

We quickly reached Sweden:

The weather was excellent, and we went for a tour over Kullaberg – my favourite place in Skåne. Kullaberg is a nature reserve and offers hiking through its wild forests, rock climbing, scuba diving (wall), stone caves, and breathtaking views.

The Kullaberg peninsula was so heavenly beautiful…

We got back to the ESMH airfield. On final to RWY14 over the city of Höganäs:

It was very nice to be back; I’ve missed the place, and the pilots I know from the Nordvästra Skånes Flygklubb. Ulrik was in the hangar, fixing the lawn mover:

We borrowed Ulrik’s car and went for sight-seeing in Höganäs. First stop – Höganäs marina:

Some sunbathing and relaxation time on the beach:

On the seawall in the harbour there are many nice ceramic tiles painted by children:

Another piece of art Morten is standing on:

Not many boats were left in the waters:

We drove to Saluhall for lunch. We started from shopping – there are always so many local delicious things in its food hall!

It is a very popular place, and the restaurant is full even on weekdays. They make great food.

Cake board that day: caramelized panna cotta and brownies with fresh raspberries (we had both!):

Visit to the old ovens of the ceramic factory that is known for producing tiles for the Sidney Opera House, among many other things. Today, there is an exhibition, a workshop where one can see how the ceramics are made, and a small shop.

There is a number of art galleries in Saluhall:

We also visited some other places, bought Christmas gifts, and in the afternoon headed home.
Roskilde fjord from north, and the new highway construction:

We were just hanging around, waiting for the sunset in the lovely evening light. A ferry going from the island of Orø:

The light was beautiful, and the shadows long:

Magnificent sunset… A moment of eternity…

It was a wonderful day; we had the time to relax and had many good experiences. And in November, such a day is a gift.
