View from one of our windows in the apartment we rented in Colmar:
We had a two-room apartmment, and the bedroom was facing an inner yard – it was very quiet. The living room was facing the street with shops and restaurants.
Close to our “home” was Marché Couvert – a food lover’s paradise:
Today’s markets are often just shops with high quality products. We went to Marché Couvert to get freshly pressed juices and to buy fruit.
Mornings in Colmar were often a bit cool, despite +25C. But in the afternoons it was very hot, like +30C.
I saw a couple of shops, I used to buy products from in Copenhagen, close to my home. One of them was Olivers & Co.:
In Copenhagen, it is located in Gammel Kongevej (close to Værnedamsvej) – that’s where I buy my olive oil, balsamico and other good things.
Another one was tea shop – Palais des Thes:
In Copenhagen, it was previously located on Værnedamsvej, now moved to a bigger shop on Gammel Kongevej, opposite the Olivers & Co.! They have excellent teas, though my favourite is still Green Jasmin from KusmiTea.
Colmar is famous for Frederic Bartoldi who was born there. Bartoldi is best known for designing the Statue of Liberty, a gift to the US from the people of France (the metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel). When you walk in Colmar, you will often see the symbol of the statue on the streets:
That symbol means, there is a historical sight nearby. You can get yourself a map of those signs at the tourist office, follow them and learn about the history of that remarkable town.
A thunderstorm was approaching Colmar:
Flemming and I wanted to sit outside for dinner, under a restaurant’s umbrella, and actually experience the thunderstorm, but it began blowing, and everybody was asked to move inside. We had some local wine for dinner, and simple salads – they were very tasty and so big, we couldn’t eat everything:
The thunderstorm was very brief – it only lasted for about 15 minutes. The air temperature fell a little.
Flemming and I went for a walk around Colmar – you could never get tired of looking at those charming buildings!
