We left the beautiful island of Hvar on an early morning, at 7 a.m. Our destination was Ajdovščina in Slovenia, and thunderstorms from west were on the way. Headwind was expected, that would increase our flight time to be around 3 hours.
It was so nice to fly early – it was only +30C!
Many Croatian islands, if not all of them, had their agricultural landscape devived by ancient stone walls. We saw them on Hvar as well. They were not tall – something like half a meter, but it must had been enourmous work to raise them! Those walls, together with shelters and water collection systems were constructed in the 4th century BC (!) and carefully maintained by the succeeding generations:
The same crops, mainly grapes and olives, are still grown in the fields.
What would you say to live on such an island, all by yourself? The house is big, but not a soul around…
Flemming and I were leaving the “Witsundays of Cloatia”, full of wonderful experiences:
In front of us were thunderstorms, and we wanted to use an opportunity to come to Slovenia in-between of them:
We had planned carefully, but you never know with the weather. If the storms came earlier, we would have to land somewhere else, and to have a stay-over there.
We saw the bad weather on the horison, moving from west towards us. It was becoming more and more misty:

The Ajdovščina airfield had special approach procedures which we followed.
Soon we were landing:
On our last day in Ajdovščina we visited the church we flew over:
On the airfield, a club member waited for us. We got fuel, and a hangar place.
Flemming and I walked to the Ajdovščina town that was just 1 km away.
We were going to stay in the very center, but needed to wait for our host to be able to hand us the key. So we took a table in a cafe called Cukr (Sugar) and just waited there.
They had good coffee and excellent croissants (among other things). The staff was welcoming, and we went there every day – it was just 50 m from the apartment where we stayed. There was also a green garden with tables, where one could sit in a shadow of the trees, surrounded by flowers.
We spent the rest of the day settling down, wandering around the town, and making plans for the days ahead.
