Summer 2023 trip. Day 15: From Losinj to Hvar

by Natalie Kjaergaard

The bad weather was coming.

The friendly staff from the Losinj airport picked us up in Mali Losinj early, before their working time.

Whilst I was preparing the aircraft, Flemming enjoyed his cat-time:

We said goodbye to Mali Losinj from air:

And headed for Hvar, an island 240 km southeast of Losinj:

The “Whitsundays of Croatia” offered such a pleasant view:

I was dreaming of buying a boat, and sailing in Croatia:

One could clearly see the volcanic origin of the islands:

Though on a flight plan, we didn’t get permission to cross the Split controlled airspace. The Split ATC sent us out over the deep Adriatic sea in 1,500 feet, and it wasn’t much fun:

The airstrip on Hvar was long and nice:

We were happy to reach Hvar and to continue enjoying that dry and sunny Croatian weather:

Those plants with beautiful yellow flowers had such long and sharp thorns! One really had to watch out!

We always tied down our aeroplane on 4 points, but on Hvar it was challenging because the earth was so hard and dry. Flemming struggled a bit:

Our host picked us up from the airport, and took us to Jelsa where we were going to stay. Plantations of olive trees were stretching around:

Now it was my turn to get the Master bedroom:

Flemming got living room – because of the air condition right over the coach:

Our balcony had an amazing view over the town:

We went (literally) to the downtown, with lots of steps:

A lazy stroll around the marina, getting to know the place:

Old churches in very clean yards:

Near the supermarket, we saw this interesting machine – one could buy eggs from it:

Jelsa was a very nice town, and we looked forward to see more of it.
