Sightseeing in Hamburg

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Our second day in Hamburg began from a tour to the St. Nikolai church’ memorial.
Kornhausbrücke with the statues of Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama on our way:

St Nikolai’s church is 147 meters, and its spire is the tallest in Hamburg. That was my best photo:

The church was severely damaged during the air raids in 1943. Today, it is Hamburg’s central memorial for victims of war and tyranny. There is a museum, and some beautiful pieces of contemporary art on the ruin’s grounds.

One can enjoy panoramic views from its observation tower at 76 meters:

The Town Hall of Hamburg:

We wandered through this wonderful city, and discovered interesting things along the way. Vagn with painted bronze sculptures, called “Man and Woman”:

Me with dogs… I don’t know what they were supposed to represent. Just dogs?

We admired the combination of super modern buildings and some older classic architecture. Sometimes we spent lots of time photographing something that attracted our attention, like Vagn here:

The day was warm and sunny, again +16C, though in the shadow it was still a bit cold. Locals told us it was their first spring-like days.
In the afternoon we went to the harbour area. A real icebreaker:

We took a sunset boat tour – the views were marvellous. Hamburg cruise terminal Steinwerder:

The port area was enormous…

And there was so much life there, even after the sunset.

The Nordakademie graduate school, one of the most spectacular modern buildings in Hamburg:

The famous Fish Market of Hamburg:

The views were incredibly beautiful.

It was a great way to end a long day of sightseeing…
