On our first morning in Konstanz Flemming and I decided to go to Meersburg, a picturesque town on the other side of the lake Constance. The ferry ride takes approx. 15 minutes, and we learned that the ferries between Konstanz and Meersburg carry around 4.2 million passengers early!

The town of Meersburg is home to two castles: the Old Castle and the New Castle. The Old Castle was built in the year 630 by Merovingian King Dagobert I. The New Castle was built in the 18th century for the bishop of Constance.

We wandered around the town and were enjoying our relaxing day.

There were not many people on the streets, and it was very peaceful.

The town was like a fairytale one, and we would often stop to admire the well-preserved buildings:

The Old Castle was towering over Meersburg. We could only imagine how overcrowded this town would be during summer season. It is a must-visit place:

It’s Chapel was open, and we went in to experience it:

Coffee-and-cake break, we did it al fresco – people were laughing at us, because we as the only ones were sitting outside 🙂 It was around +15C, a big difference for us, and we wanted to enjoy it 🙂

Another interesting thing I noticed in Meersburg was those many vintage signs (I don’t know what they are called) on hotels, shops, restaurants. Beautifully crafted, big and gold-plated:

After we saw everything we wanted that day in Meersburg, Flemming and I took a ferry back to Konstanz. It was a nice outing, and what a charming town it was!
