Summer tour 2024. Day 2: Sunset dinner in Koblenz airport

Morning in LĂĽneburg was warm and sunny.

Flemming and I wanted to have breakfast outside, and there was a bakery on the corner. They had pastry,  called “Copenhagener” – and I wanted to try it (it was very good):

I’ve been to LĂĽneburg before, and loved this town – it was nice to see it again.

The St. Michaelis church had a 30-minutes organ concert that was played on its largest organ:

The organ was built in 1708 by Arp Schnitger’s student Matthias Dropa from Hamburg and replaced an older instrument. Arp Schnitger was an influential Northern German organ builder. Considered the best manufacturer of his time, Schnitger built or rebuilt over 150 organs. He was primarily active in Northern Europe, especially the Netherlands and Germany, and a number of his instruments are still there. Arp Schnitger is buried in a church in Hamburg.

After the concert, Flemming and I walked a bit around LĂĽneburg.

All those well-preserved buildings were so appealing:

We needed to find a place where we could sit in a shadow and prepare for the flight, because it was going to rain in LĂĽneburg next days. We wanted to fly to Koblenz and needed to make sure it was possible, book accommodation, inform LĂĽneburg airport of our time of departure, and so on.

Mälzer Brau- und Tafelhaus had a nice shaded garden, and good German food 🙂

After checking the weather, we prepared our route:

In the airport, a pilot from the club met us. Flemming and I got ready and took off.

Flying over the city of Peine, we were surprised by the huge industrial infrustructure of this small city:

Peine was founded around 1220 and is known for its steel industry.

Privately owned Schloss Söder:

The medieval town of Melsungen, famous for having 8 residents who are billionaires – making Meslungen the city with the most billionaires per capita in the world:

The flight was very pleasant, and we changed stearing from time to time.

Approach to Koblenz airport was beautiful:

The airfield is on the top of a plateau, at 640 feet. You can see it on the photo below, center. And the photo below is taken on left downwind to runway 23.

Before turning to left base at 1,000 ft AGL:

I did a very nice landing, I could be proud of, though I was quite nervous. We parked and went to the tower.

Flemming and I were going to stay in Koblenz for 3 nights, and we looked forward to explore that city. For both of us it was a first time visit.

The sun was going down, and we had our dinner on the terrace of the airport’s restaurant:

The staff called us a taxi, and soon we were in the heart of Koblenz. The apartment we booked was located in the pedestrian area of the city. It was +25C and many people were out in bars and restaurants:

We had a walk, enjoying that warm and peaceful night in Koblenz.
