OY-9797, first 100 hours service

First 6 months were gone, and first 100 hours were logged. It was time to do scheduled maintenance on my Aeroprakt.

We had agreed to do it yesterday, exactly 6 month after I made my first flight in OY-9797. A visit of Simba and Steen from Danaero who delivered the service kit:

I asked Lars to assist with my first 100 hours service. Flemming and I came earlier, and prepared all instruments:

Steen stayed to give a hand:

Lars guided, Flemming and I did most of the job:

Propeller check:

Removing fairings:

Flemming changed oil:

And I secured the oil tank:

Spike plugs were fine:

We finished just at sunset, and Lars congratulated me with the first 100 hours service completed. We had a glass of sparkling water to celebrate with:

I don’t know how Lars had it, but Flemming and I were very tired after 5 hours of work. It was neither difficult nor physically challenging, but maybe a combination of being outside, working in a hangar, and trying to remember all that knowledge Lars so generously shared with us. When Flemming and I got home, we had some quick food accompanied by a glass of Cold Hawaii wine (Italian negroamaro primitivo with a Cold Hawaii label) we bought on our last flying trip to Thy, and went early to bed.

It was nice to get this service done before it becomes cold. Now we are going into the darker part of the year with rainy winter, limited daylight, and fewer flying hours (well, hopefully NOT!). I don’t think I’m gonna log 100 hours next 6 month, and that isn’t a goal either. But flying over autumn-coloured forests and snowy landscapes – I look forward to that.

This morning, Flemming opened the oil filter we replaced, and checked it for metal shavings and dust. It was clear:

Many thanks to Lars for offering his time, help and knowledge!
