NordAls flying club is located on the northern part of the island of Als off the east coast of the Jutland peninsula.
The aerodrome has a nice grass runway and excellent facilities. Traditional Southern Jutland hospitality began already in the air: on landing we were asked on the radio whether we wanted a freshly brewed cup of coffee on arrival. Ole welcomed us to the club and yes, the coffee was ready.Soon we were joined by Kaj from Tønder flying club.
We looked at some pictures (of the aeroplanes of course!), and Lars – my co-pilot – told a story about a KZIII once owned by his family. He was trying to find out where this aircraft was and what kind of destiny it has had since then. Ole asked about the call sign. “OY-DAA” answered Lars.
Ole pointed at a picture on the wall. It was OY-DAA in the old days…
Then Ole opened a hangar – and there it was!
It was nice to see that the aircraft was in good hands.
Soon Niels, the owner of the aircraft, came in. OY-DAA was taken out, and we could have a better look at it.
Lars flew this aeroplane when he was 10 years old with his uncle-pilot.
Ole took us around the aerodrome and we appreciated his warm-heartedness very much.
Flying home we were reflecting on the experiences from this trip: kindness of the people we met, OY-DAA was unexpectedly found, the beauty of our planet…
