Merry Christmas!

by Natalie Kjaergaard

White Christmas in Copenhagen! I had to see it from the air.

In Denmark, we only have 6% chance of having snow on Christmas – so it is quite special. I arrived to my flying club this morning before the sunrise, when the skies where still lit by the almost full moon.

First sun light on our airfield…

I cleaned the apron of snow the day before. My dear friend Vagn drove by to help me open the hangar (it’s a nightmare for me to do it alone), to pull the aircraft out, and with some other heavy things. I used this chance to give Vagn a surprise Christmas gift, and asked to open first by the Christmas tree, when he’d be celebrating with his family.

I fuelled the OY-9465 up, and off we go:

I was granted permission to enter Kastrup control zone via Vallensbæk.

Brøndby Strand and its marina:

Avedøre Aero Center – place where some skilled volunteers restore historic aircraft:

Avedøre power station;

Copenhagen and its city harbour:

The views were breathtaking:

Sluseholmen:

Copenhagen Kastrup airport on the photo below. It was very busy on the radio:

Christianshavn in front of me:

A closer look:

Copenhagen Harbour with Christiansborg Palace (contains the Danish Parliament Folketinget, the Supreme Court, and the Ministry of State), Copenhagen Stock Exchange, National Bank, Holmens Church, and Holmens Channel on the left; a yellow harbour bus-ferry in the center; Kongens Nytorv far center; Nyhavn and The Royal Danish Playhouse on the right:

It doesn’t matter which way you look – it is beautiful:

Amalienborg Palace (home of the Royal Danish Family), and The Frederik’s Church:

Kløvermarken, place where the very first commercial airport in Denmark was:

Kastellet, one of the best well-preserved fortresses in Northern Europe:

The last glimpse of Copenhagen before leaving the Kastrup control zone:

I flew a bit around and enjoyed the white-Christmas-views:

The weather was so good, but unfortunately everything was closed due to holidays, and there wasn’t much to do except for flying and being grateful for there wonderful experiences.

I soon landed in my home airfield.

Marvellous day in the air – and so special, because it’s Christmas!
