Månemor & gløgg

by Natalie Kjaergaard

We finally got pleasant winter in Denmark, with a little snow and blue skies! Flemming and I decided to go for a forest walk before going for a flight, to see the snow.

We chose to do it in a place where we could also experience one of the Thomas Dambo’s hidden giants – the Månemor. I’m sitting at her feet, and you can see how big the sculpture is:

The name Månemor means Moon Mother, and it is the troll #100, made by Thomas Dambo, a Danish artist. Starting in 2010, he has created over 120 statues of recycled wood in 17 countries. Most of his trolls are in Denmark. They are called the hidden giants, because Thomas Dambo builds them in a kind of secret locations, inviting you to go discover.

After getting some fresh air and a good walk (we even ran a bit), Flemming and I drove to my flying club in Holbæk.

We wanted to find some snow from air, but there wasn’t much:

It was snowing lightly from time to time, and we therefore stayed close to the Holbæk aerodrome.

The sunset came early:

We flew around Roskilde fjord and Holbæk fjord, and admired the views:

Soon it began snowing more, and we headed home, flying by the city of Holbæk:

At home, Flemming washed my airplane, and I did other practicalities:

It was freezing cold, and The Aviator together with The Blue Bear demanded gløgg (traditional Danish mulled wine). We of course accommodated their demand, and even served æbleskiver (another traditional Christmas thing) – they were very happy about everything:

Flemming and I were happy, as well. Snow, frost, forest walk, hidden giants and a nice flight – what could be a better way to spend a day!
