Leaving for a 3-day trip to Getterön in Sweden was spectacular – the sunlight beaming through the clouds created fascinating shadows on water:
The whole flight was going to be 110 nm, around an hour and a half in my Aeroprakt:
The weather was excellent, and it was so nice to fly by the western coast of Sweden. Flemming joined me on this tour, and he was taking pictures from air. Subbe half island, south of Varberg, beautiful place with sand beaches, windsurfing, huge camping site and outdoor activities:
Varberg Fortress, such an imposing historical structure from the 13th century, with star-shaped layout and open courtyard:
I once stayed in the Fortress’ hostel. It was very nice, few and big rooms, clean and silent…
Varberg’s Kallbadhuset, a traditional cold bathing facility with hot saunas, massage and dining:
Flemming and I did a couple of rounds over Getterön. There were no other aircraft in the air, and we could have a closer look from air at different parts of that nature resort. The red arrow on the photo below points at the Varberg Fortress, yellow line is the runway, and orange arrow indicates the house where we were going to stay – with the view to the runway!
After landing, Flemming tied down the OY-9797, I put the canopy cover on, and we walked to our accommodation.
The house was new and so wonderful, with a terrace and a table outside under the trees:
The other, unused runway, was close by:
It was impossible to get in contact with the flying club. They didn’t answer the phone calls and my messages. The only thing we wanted was renting bikes! Luckily, the house we stayed in, had free bikes for the guests:
Flemming and I biked to the Femte Vik, the best beach on Getterön. Surrounded by cliffs, with powder sand, it is such a great place to go for a swim! We noticed, lots of sea grass was planted there, and the water was so clean!
We spent some time there, sunbathing a little on the wide wooden beach beds, and enjoying the warm weather.
Our dinner was almost ready – we brought everything from home. There are no supermarkets on Getterön, a few restaurants that close down at 8 p.m. and less exciting menues. Most of everything was shut down after the summer season.
Lots of seafood and salads, champagne, berries and chocolate – we had a nice evening, and could see the flying club from the terrace’ glass door. The errow points at the tower of the airport:
We looked forward to go hiking on Getterön, to explore Varberg, and to relax.
The air outside was clear, but with a little fog. Stars began to appear on the night sky, and the silvery moonlight was so bright…
As the night approached, familiar surroundings began loosing their shapes. The once busy world around us sank into a mysterious and quiet darkness.
