Flygfisk in Höganäs

by Natalie Kjaergaard

On Tuesdays, during summer time, flying club in Höganäs hosts their popular “flygfisk” fly-ins. “Flygfisk” could be translated into English as “flying fish”. What it means in practice is that you fly in, and pilots from the club serve you local, freshly caught herring, grilled and on a rye bread.

My friend Vagn picked me up in Holbæk,  and soon we were crossing over via AMSUR.

Turning on final to RWY14:

I’ve been to Höganäs so many times, but never on a Tuesday. So I looked forward to that. In fact, it is my favorite place to visit. People are nice everywhere; and from Höganäs airfield you can go to the town where there are nice restaurants, art galleries, and a pleasant harbour. Or you could go hiking to the Kullaberg nature reserve, or to visit Nimis & Arx – the well known art work. There is also an aviation museum that I haven’t visited yet.

When we arrived, there were many guests already. They were sitting in the garden, enjoying the food and a warm evening in the sunshine.

My friend Karl-Åke who lives nearby, came to see me. It was so nice to meet again!

The herring was excellent, I simply loved it. I even considered one more portion, but all these calories, you know… There should always be room left for a chocolate ice-cream! I’d rather wait till next time and enjoy it again. And the next time will hopefully be next Tuesday when a big event is going to take place at the ESMH airfield: Fly & Drive. Classic cars, bikes, and even a DC-3 from Stockholm!

I met fellow pilots from different flying clubs there, both from Denmark and Sweden. Per from Roskilde flying club on the photo below, enjoying a chocolate (!) ice-cream. We flew together in Per’s aircraft on a tour to Colmar, France, earlier this year.

Vagn, Bjarne and his grandson Louie (such a sweet and polite boy):

The evening went quickly, and we took off home. Flying by the side of Höganäs, we envied this town for having this very nice airfield, with four runways and lots of space, and good facilities. Any aircraft is welcome to land, no landing fees, a small hostel on site. Pure luxury compare to the conditions we are used to.

Selfie in the sky – the best selfies one can get!

And a round over Kullaberg, of course!

Good bye, Sweden! And thank you for your hospitality!

Vagn dropped me off in Holbæk, and took off immediately for Kræmmersten, his home airfield. I appreciate out trips with Vagn in his Rans. I already mentioned it a couple of times before, that I’d bought a one for myself, if it was manufactured in Europe.

Many thanks to Vagn for this trip, and to the Höganäs flying club, for making it memorable.
