My first morning in Colmar began from a tour to La Petite Venise, together with Inge-Merethe and Carsten.
The little Venice of Colmar has many charming shops, hotels, restaurants, and winstubs. It is one of the best preserved, picturesque, and flowery historic sites of Colmar, and of Alsace. We went for a tour around, and were amazed by the beauty of this place.
The area is named after Venice in Italy, and like in Venice, one can take a boat ride through its channels. The boats are small, for about 10-20 people.
It was a very pleasant way of discovering La Petite Venise.
Most of the picturesque half-timbered houses of the district, painted in Alsatian colors, are built between the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries.
During our trip we spotted a restaurant on the left and later got a table for lunch there on its terrace:
View from the restaurant’s terrace:
As soon as the food arrived we got to our cameras:
I had salade du Comptoir de Georges (foie gras d’oie, magret de canard d’Alsace fumé, assortiment de salades):
After lunch we continued exploring the area.
We often stopped and just looked at the beautiful things we saw around.
Coffee & cakes break:
We noticed these tourist trains going around, and took a ride on one of them.
We also visited the Saint-Martin Cathedral which is one of the most important Gothic works in Alsace.
During the day, I took around 300 photos of the buildings of Colmar, so pretty they were. Just look at all these watering cans hanging on the houses on the photo below:
In the evening the whole group met for a dinner. It was a lovely day, full of gastronomical and cultural experiences.
