Circular rainbows

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Yesterday Vagn and I took off early – the weather forecast promised sunshine, and we wanted to get the most of the day.

Our initial plan was to go to Halmstad (ESMT) in Sweden, but after filing a flight plan we got a call from Sweden Control. They informed us that the airport was closed, and we changed destination to Höganäs (ESMH).

A cold front was approaching, but a light one:

To our delight, lots of circular rainbows began to appear on our left side along the way. We saw hundreds of them, and couldn’t believe our eyes! I succeeded in capturing one on a photo (in the center, between the wing struts):

Soon the clouds were gone, so were the circular rainbows… And we enjoyed other beautiful views:

In Höganäs, we got the bikes, and went to the town.

We went shopping to the Höganäs design outlet first, and then to the harbour for lunch at Hamnkrogen restaurant. We had delicious fried plaice with veggies:

Though it was only +5C, the sunlight did the magic, and we loved biking around:

Shopping in Saluhall, and a coffee break in its cafe. When I came home in the evening, I still remembered the taste of that hand-made chocolate we had – so exquisite it was:

Flying back home in the afternoon sun was a pleasure. Roskilde Fjord:

Beautiful shadows on the small hills of Zealand:

The sunset at 15:52 was quickly approaching:

The light was soft, warm, and relaxing, and we just flew around, and watched the sunset, the long shadows on the ground, knowing that tomorrow the weather would be different…

There were many other pilots in the air, it was quite a busy day for the air traffic controllers.

It was a very nice beginning of the year. Hopefully, there will be many more days like that one – where we live our dreams.
