Jens and I monitored the ever changing weather forecast, and a decision to go to Höganäs for Christmas shopping was taken Saturday evening.
I dislike disturbing people on a Saturday night, but in this case I had to: we needed to find out whether we could land in ESMH (PPR due to wet runways), to arrange some form of transportation if possible, and so on. I contacted several people from the Nordvästra Skånes Flygklubb, and all of them responded. We were welcome!
When we reached Sweden, the cloud base was a bit low, but we decided to go for a round over Kullaberg anyway.
I’ve never been on a flying trip to Höganäs without flying over Kullaberg. It is an incredibly beautiful place. I explored it many times on foot, by boat, by car, from air, and I can never get enough of it. Scuba diving is also good there (wall diving).
In ESMH we got a privileged parking place on the lee of the club house, and a warm-hearted welcome.
Bikes were ready, and we headed to the city. On the photo below Jens is buying a surprise gift (because it’s Sunday!) to Kristina, his girlfriend.
I also bought some presents for my friends:
No trip to Höganäs is complete without visiting Saluhal – my favourite place for lunch though this time we had it in another place. Saluhal is a stylish raw industrial building used to be a ceramics factory that existed since 1835. Today, only a small production remains. The building is transformed into a place with the focus on local gastronomy, design, and lifestyle products. View from the restaurant to the food hall:
I wanted to buy one of those (photo below): it is a traditional Southern Sweden’ cake called Spättekaka. Unfortunately, after all this shopping we wouldn’t have room left for that kind of fragile deserts in our aircraft. So I settled for a tin box of nice local Christmas cookies instead.
After Saluhallen we continued to the harbour. Whilst Jens was relaxing on the beach,
I had a stroll around the harbour, and
enjoyed local art. The wall protecting the harbour was decorated with lovely hand-made tiles. One of them had a sign “Denmark” (yellow arrow). It pictured a lonely boat in the sea (vikings?):
Höganäs has a number of good restaurants, and Jens as a co-pilot chose a place. He found an excellent one in the harbour – Hamnkrog. We ordered fish & chips (recommended by Ulrik from Nordvästra Skånes Flygklubb). The fish was so good – we really enjoyed it.
The restaurant was full – must be a popular place – and we got a nice table too. Very good service, quick and attentive, as always in Sweden. We will definitely return, and recommend it to others.
I logged our biking tour: we did 4 km in just 4 hours! Great result! Here is the proof:
And here are the men who came to the flying club for our sake, arranged coffee with cakes, nice welcome, VIP parking, and bicycles. Ulrik (left) and Lasse (right). Without them this trip would not be as successful as it was. Many thanks and we look forward to welcome you to our flying club in Måløv when it suits you!
