Castles of North Zealand

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Yesterday my friend Vagn picked me up at Albatros flying club in Måløv in his beautiful Rans 6:

We made a round over Copenhagen first. Kongens Nytorv, Rosenborg Gardens, Frederik’s Church, Amalienborg:

Stadsgraven canal, built in the early 17th century:

Maersk headquaters where I once worked, Kastellet, Langelinie… Nordic Seaplanes has their terminal on Nordre Toldbod. From there they can take you to Arhus in 45 minutes, on a wine tasting flight, sightseeing tour or other special events.

“Group” photo in the air:

Nivå harbour that has its origin in a clay pit from a local brick factory:

Louisiana, museum of modern art, and Humlebæk harbour on the photo below. The property was built in 1855 by Alexander Brun who married three women all named Louise (very convenient!). Hence the name Louisiana.

Frederiksborg Castle and gardens in Hillerød. This magnificent Renaissance castle was built in the beginning of 17th century by the King Christian IV:

Fredensborg Castle, the Royal Family’s spring and autumn residence:

And no tour over Northern Zealand is complete without flying over Kronborg Castle. The old town of Helsingør (English: Elsinore) established in 1420s is also a worth-visit (on foot) place. A stroll down its charming narrow streets with crooked timbered houses is something to enjoy and to remember.

Helsingør is mostly known for the Kronborg Castle from Shakespeare’s Hamlet:

The Castle is on the UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The Castle’s story dates back to the 1420s when a fortress Krogen was built there. From 1574 to 1585 Frederik II had it rebuilt into a unique Renaissance castle.

Beautiful day in the air with so many wonderful things to see…
