Best coffee in Büsum

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Sunday morning in Büsum was very nice, but in Denmark the weather wasn’t flyable everywhere:

We decided to stay in Büsum till late afternoon, and went shopping. Flemming bought a bright jacket for biking in the darkness:

When you don’t have much to do, a coffee break is always a solution 🙂 The locals recommended Mutterland, a small coffee shop with a vew (yellow arrow points at):

They had a nice selection of other things as well, and their own hand-made chocolate – I bought one, it was truly deliscious.

Flemming and I took a table on the balcony, on the sunny side:

I find it difficult to judge coffee when there is milk in, because it changes the taste. Femming said it was very good 🙂

Meanwhile, the tide was getting back to high… There were hundreds of those traditional beach baskets by the sea, and anybody could rent one. There was 3 euro tax, also if you just wanted to sit on the grass. Well, part of the money obviously went to maintenance – the grass was well-cut, beach baskets maintained, and there was stuff working. In general, we thought that at least the seaside of Büsum was very nicely planned – buildings and restaurants with a sea view, long promenade on top of the dike, nice green beach, water for rinsing your feet if you walked on the sea bed during low tide, beach baskets, small bridges, and so on.

We went for a swim. It was again +23C, and the water was still warm.

The 22 m tall Büsum lighthouse from 1913, the landmark of the town:

In the beginning, it was operated electrically, but since 1976 it has been controlled remotely from the headquarters in Tönning. 87 steps inside the tower lead to the lantern room.

Flemming and I spent the rest of our time in Büsum on its promenade by the sea, sipping on the hot chocolate to-go from the Mutterland:

The hot chocolate was actually good, not much sugar, and with a pronounced chocolate beans taste (not the usual crap!).

Soon it was time to wave goodbye to the apartment with the sea view where we stayed:

We got airborne and headed home:

We’ve seen so many dikes in Germany, and Flemming spotted a small island of Birkholm in the Danish waters, that had a double dike. One was around the whole island, and another one – protecting the village:

At home, a lot of practical work needed to be done, so we started from having some German sandwiches we had:

My OY-9797 got a thorough wash, and we also checked the tires pressure:

Our relaxing weekend in Büsum was finished, and we brought home many nice memories.
