Ascension/Whitsun holidays 2021. Day 11: Life is a beach, this time on Bornholm

by Natalie Kjaergaard

Yesterday we probably had the warmest and nicest day on the island – it was sunny and calm, with temperatures up to +20C. Henrik and I wanted to spend this wonderful day as close to the sea as possible. We began our morning from going to the Sandvig beach:

It is a very nice sandy beach, and there even was a man-made path – to avoid getting to much sand in your shoes:

The water was cold of course, but I don’t have any problems with that – the colder the better:

It was more deep than I expected, and doing down steeply:

It was so great to swim again – I’ve missed it… I even went to the water twice…

Later, Henrik was getting tanned on the rocks, and I flew my drone.

On the platform for swimmers:

We stayed on the beach for a while, and enjoyed the sunshine before going back home for a quick lunch:

Down the hill through the forest to “our” Hammerhavn:

And on a sailing tip along the eastern coast of Bornholm:

It was perfect weather for sailing a small motorised boat. Tommy, our captain, did the sightseeing tour for us.

We sailed into the narrow cave called Den Våde Ovn (free translation: the wet oven), which goes 70 metres deep into the cliff:

Passing by the Hammershus:

Another cave, called Den Tørre Ovn (free translation: the dry oven):

It is called “dry” because the cave isn’t deep, one can visit it on foot (walking in the water). We sailed along the coast, and Tommy also showed us many special birds, interesting rocks, and just some nice places. It was a very good tour, we recommend it.

In the evening, Henrik and I stayed at home, and enjoyed a simple dinner in our garden:
