That morning Henrik and I were going on a sailing tour.
We drove to Gudhjem, and I again had a chance to fly my drone. The boat we were going to sail with – a 108 years old Danish built wooden beauty called M/S Thor- is the small one on the right:
Henrik was in a desperate need to have a coffee and croissant. Unfortunately, the bakery was closed, and below he was artistically expressing his disappointment:
We attempted to find another bakery, but with no luck. On the way, Henrik noticed a red-white road stone:
He told me, in his childhood all the roads in Denmark had those stones. Because of the red top, they were called The Red Hats (Rødhætter in Danish). They were made of granite on Bornholm, but later replaced by some modern ones, because they severely damaged the cars in case of accidents. On Bornholm, there are still many of them standing, and they are a very charming reminder from the past.
We got back to the boat – it was time for boarding.
The sightseeing tour went by the coast line to the Helligdomsklipperne (Sanctuary Cliffs) – one of the most important landmarks on Bornholm:
During the ice age, much of today’s coast was below sea level but when the ice melted, the island itself was raised leaving this part of Bornholm’s coast some 20 meters above sea level.
The tree growing on the top of the cliff (photo below) can get 1,000 years old, we were told:
We sailed back to Gudhjem, full of nice experiences. The trip was easy and very informative; besides that you get a different view of the area that you won’t get on a hiking tour – we recommend it!
In the afternoon, we agreed to meet with Lars, a pilot-friend of mine, who worked in Rønne airport that day. Lars saw my Aeroprakt parked in the airport, and sent a message he was on the island.
Lars helped us to refuel, and we agreed to have dinner together at “our” house. It was very cosy to have a guest!
Henrik and I otherwise began getting tired of each others company! Just kidding – we function very well on flying tours – or we wouldn’t go together.
It was very nice to see Lars again and hear some of the news. Last time we met, it was also on Bornholm – and at that time Flemming and I were invited to his and Siv’s home where we had a delicious dinner, and Siv played piano for us. Kenneth and Vitus joined us as well. Read more here.
